About us
Rural Skills Training is managed by Peter Holmes. Peter was brought up in agriculture and has been working as a contractor and instructor in conservation and horticultural work for 30 years.
He has 20 years experience of running his own practical conservation contracting business. This business was hired by farmers, estates and other land managers (including North Yorkshire Council, Harrogate Borough Council, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Farmers and Wildlife Advisory Group and DEFRA) to provide hedge laying, tree planting and after care, dry stone walling, wood and wire fencing, footpath creation and
maintenance and other wider landscaping and habitat projects.
During and since then he has built up extensive experience delivering training in a range of rural skills to a variety of audiences including World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, BTCV (now TCV), Friends of Cumbernauld Glen, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Edinburgh and North Lanarkshire Councils, the Scottish Crofting Federation and West Highlands College UHI as well as for private individuals and as a horticultural instructor for Redhall Walled Garden.
.
Through Rural Skills Training, Peter now provides tailor-made courses, training and workshops in hedge planting, laying and restoration, dry stone walling, dyking and sculpture, woodland and land management, woodland crafts and coppicing including hurdle making, and fencing. Rural Skills Training utilises other skilled and experienced trainers where appropriate.
Courses can be provided throughout Scotland and Northern England on your own site or at a suitable location arranged on your behalf with or by Rural Skills Training.
All Rural Skills Training courses are supported by course literature, risk assessments and materials and are covered by full public liability insurance.
